Q&A - Winter Skin

Q: “My skin seems to be getting drier as the temperatures drops.  Should I change my skin care routine during winter?”  -Judy A.

A: Absolutely! Your winter skin care regimen should differ from your summertime regimen, especially if you live in a colder climate.

  • Exfoliating is just as important this time of year. Skin Blends has a great new Creamy Facial Polish that is ideal for treating winter skin. It exfoliates dead skin cells to reveal younger looking skin, leaving your skin feeling silky smooth!
  • Don’t forget to tone! Everyone’s favorite toner is our Age Defying Hydrating Toner. This toner is great year round, but especially to treat dry winter skin. We have formulated it with plant stem cells, and powerful healing agents.
  •  Many women mistakenly believe that their skin doesn’t need sunscreen in winter. But don’t be fooled, the sun’s rays are just as harmful this time of year.  Your sunscreen can even double as your moisturizer, and our SPF 50 Cream is a perfect choice.  With its ultra-sheer technology, it quickly absorbs into your skin, so you can apply your makeup directly after.
  • You’ll also need to switch to a slightly heavier, more moisturizing night cream and/or add in a hydrator. Young & Rich is one of our most popular moisturizers because of its all-star ingredients. Layering it first with our CPR Hydrator is great for super dry skin because it will seal in hydration!

Q: “I’ve heard of cleansing with oil to treat my dry winter skin. How do I incorporate this into my routine?” –Amanda B.

A: Oil cleansing is the process of using oil (instead of a cleanser) to dissolve and remove dirt on the skin. It is great for all skin types- even acne prone skin!  To start, decide (or ask your esthetician) which oil is best for your skin. Skin blends has a vast variety of skin oils available, Dry Skin Oil, Desert Dry Skin Oil, Squalane Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Organic Oil Blends that target dry, combination, and oily skin.  Next, place a hot, damp washcloth on the face for 20 seconds. Remove the washcloth, massage your oil of choice into the skin, let the oil sit for 30 seconds, and use a hot washcloth to gently wipe the oil away. You can add a drop or 2 of tea tree oil for acne prone skin. Using an oil cleansing method is actually highly beneficial for people with oily or acneic skin. They tend to over cleanse and dry out their skin, which causes the skin to overcompensate for the dryness thus producing more oil.
