Exfoliate Your Dry Skin Woes!

Dead skin cells are abundant during the dry winter months and while you may be moisturizing on a daily basis adding exfoliation to your routine 2-3 times a week can be extremely beneficial! Exfoliation encourages new cell growth and can be done in two very easy ways.

Traditional Exfoliation
Scrubs provide a valuable contribution to achieving healthy skin. Their abrasive particles that remove dead, dry cells on the top layer of the skin. Keep in mind as we age, cell turnover slows so exfoliation is in important in helping achieve younger, healthier looking and functioning skin.

Our Bamboo Enzyme Combo Scrub is one of our newest scrubs and is unique in that it incorporates both enzymatic and physical exfoliation. Instead of traditional polyethylene beads, it utilizes the power of Bamboo Powder. Bamboo Powder particles are smoother and less callous than many exfoliants, making them effective, but not irritating to even the most sensitive skin.

TIP - Keep your scrubs in the shower to make it easier to remember to incorporate into your routine!

Chemical Exfoliation
Both Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) and Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are extremely beneficial for your skin and are both wonderful exfoliants. Unlike a traditional scrub exfoliant, AHAs work by dissolving the intercellular glue that holds your skin cells together, thereby releasing the cells. BHAs dissolve the intercellular fluid as well as the keratinized surface cells. Tha main difference btween the two is that AHAs are water soluble, while BHAs are lipid (oil) soluble. BHAs penetrate into the follicle to help keep pores clean.

Ever wonder how to incorporate acids into your skin routine? Alpha Beta X is your answer!
Alpha Beta X is a perfect blend of AHAs and BHAs. The acids are controlled in a moisturizing green tea base, making them safe to use at home (LEAVE THE PEELS TO THE PROFESSIONALS!). Alpha Beta X uses AHAs to exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells and BHAs to exfoliate down in the pores. While most use it for ingrown hair prevention, it is an amazing exfoliant for your entire body and can be used daily without over exfoliating the skin like a scrub would!

Q & A With Natalya

Q: "My lips are always incredibly dry during the winter. No matter how much chapstick I use, they continue to crack and peel. Is there anything I can do to make this issue better?"

A: As odd as it may sound, exfoliation is always really good for dry lips. For extremely dry cases, you will want to begin with a layer of Moisture Sealant or Coconut Oil to prep your lips prior to exfoliation to give them a little layer of protection. Our Creamy Facial Polish has a creamy cleansing base, which will help you retain moisture while exfoliating. Since the skin around your mouth tends to be thinner, it has very gentle exfoliating beads that will help remove the flaking skin. A bit of Desert DrySkin Oil underneath our Moisture Sealant before bed will also help you retain the extra moisture needed during the drier months.

Q:
"I love the benefits of Essential Oils but I cannot seem to find an easy way to use them in my daily routine. What would you suggest?"

A: There are two very easy ways to incorporate Essential Oils into your daily life that do not require very much effort or thought throughout the day.

The easiest way is to have your Skin Care Professional blend them into your face and/or body products. Adding them into your Cleanser, Hydrator or Moisturizer allows the Essential Oils to get close to the skin for added benefit and can totally transform your daily routine by smell alone! Our favorite combinations are Lavender and Frankincense, Ylang Ylang and Tea Tree, and Clove Bud and Eucalyptus.

Another simple way is with an Essential Oil Diffuser. Simply add a few drops of Essential Oils to water inside of the Diffuser, set the timer and enjoy! Our Natural Aromas are also blends of Essential Oils which can safely be used with your Diffuser.
